Joshua Tree Adventure - Part 2

Little did I know that this particular day would affect me like it did. I always thought soloing (climbing without a rope) was nuts, and that I would stick to bouldering and ropes climbing.

Joshua Tree Adventures - Part 1

Looking back, Joshua Tree does it to me every time. It inspires me, scares me, and just plain blows my mind on occasion. This trip ended up being one of those. The landscape and energy of the place make you feel like you are on another planet.

The Forks of the Kern

The Forks of the Kern is the real deal when it comes to white water rafting.  Located in  California's Sequoia National Forest, this section of river is a 20 mile stretch that offers some of the best continuous class VI and V white water rafting in North America. Leave it to the river to humble you, this section scares the shit out of me and inspires at the same time.

The Adventure Begins

The Black Owl Media adventure van is finally complete and ready to hit the road. This van has been totally overhauled and is now a  mobile photography studio that I can live out of.  I have been dreaming about hitting the road for years now, and now that it is becoming a reality I couldn't be happier. The freedom to go wherever I want is almost overwhelming, there seems to be so many great places in the US its really hard to pick a destination.

To Purgatory and Back

Rafael Valdes clings to an awesome arete problem we found.

Most people I've met in the Tahoe area have heard of Purgatory, but have never climbed there because you might as well drive the extra hour and a half to go to Bishop. Jason Burd invited my girl friend Sasha and I to go along with him for a day trip.

"Smilee Boulders" in Lake Tahoe

Julie Otis climbs V4-V5ish unnamed problem at the Smilee Boulders in Lake Tahoe.

I met Julie about a month ago while climbing in Lake Tahoe. Julie and her husband Paul are local Tahoe climbers who crush it. In addition to being strong climbers, they both work as school teachers.

Tahoe climbing at Spooner

Juan Rodriguez free solos a 5:10a at Spooner, Lake Tahoe, California.

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to meet Mad Rock sponsored climber Juan Rodriguez. Apparently he was on a cross country road trip on a 600cc Kawasaki motorcycle from Oregon to Cedar Point, an amusement park in Ohio, to ride an epic roller coaster.

Moved to Tahoe, First Post

Just finally got this blog thing going, its been awhile in the making. Sasha and I just moved to Lake Tahoe recently. After the white white rafting season ended on the Kern river I needed a place to go and Tahoe sounded like the most promising place to live for two photographers. We moved here with high hopes. So far the place is epic!
